Bhubaneswar: The 14-year-old girl, who claimed to have been gang-raped by four uniformed personnel inside the Lanjiguda forest, accused the director-general of police on Friday of trying to bribe her in the hospital.
The police headquarters has denied the allegations.
"The police director-general met me at the hospital and offered Rs 90,000 kept in an envelope. He also asked for my signature on a paper. I neither took the money nor signed the paper," said the girl during a public hearing of rape victims.
The teenager had alleged she was gagged and gang-raped at gun-point by four uniformed personnel inside the Lanjiguda forest when she was on her way to school from Kunduli. The girl had also alleged that she was left in the forest after being raped.
"The first doctor who examined me confirmed that it was a case of rape but the government agencies are denying the fact now. I am being asked frequent questions by my friends and relatives whether I was raped or not. This has become unbearable for me. How can a girl lie about being raped? I am yet to get justice," said the girl.
The police claimed that the medical report of the victim did not reveal any sexual assault. The state police had taken the case under "red flag" category, which deals with sensational cases of crime against women.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has also ordered a judicial and crime branch probe in to the incident. "The allegations are totally false, fabricated, malicious and motivated. It is further clarified that at no occasion did the DGP meet or interact in any manner with the complainant of the case," read an official statement of the Odisha Police state headquarters.
