Bhubaneswar, Sept. 1: Industrial, banking and transport sectors are likely to be hit hard by the proposed all-India trade union strike tomorrow.

The BJD and all Left parties have pledged support to the strike called by all the central trade unions except the RSS-affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh.

On August 30, a delegation of trade union representatives met BJD president Naveen Patnaik and sought his party's support to the strike. BJD sources said the labour front of the party would extend its support. The Left parties have asked their party cadres to actively take part in tomorrow's strike, said CPI state unit secretary Dibakar Nayak.

The transport sector will be hit with workers staying off work, said trade union leader Naba Kishore Mohanty. Government and private buses will stay off the road in the state tomorrow. Autorickshaw and taxi drivers will also join the strike, said state president of Auto and Taxi Drivers Federation Subas Singh.

Schools have decided to keep their institutions closed tomorrow, said sources.

The banking sector is also likely to be paralysed with all major bank employee unions having given the strike call, said state secretary of All-India Trade Union Congress Souribandhu Kar.

Rourkela Steel Plant, National Aluminium Company and Paradip Port Trust have made preparations to ensure that the production and cargo handling activities are not affected tomorrow.
