Bhubaneswar, Feb. 14: The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) will provide financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh to each of its constituent colleges for development purposes.
The department of technical education took this decision for proper utilisation of BPUT development funds.
The institutions will use the money for the development of laboratories, buying equipment, books, software and creating language labs on their respective campuses.
“The funds will be taken from the grants provided to the colleges during the next three financial years,” a senior official of the institution said. The principals of the colleges have been asked to submit proposals specifying the items to be procured to the vice-chancellor of BPUT by February 15. Following this, the vice-chancellor will place the proposal before the board of management.
The vice-chancellor of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology will also make a proposal to increase intake capacity of core branches such as civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering from the academic session 2013-14. “Steps will be taken to introduce five-year integrated courses in pure sciences such as physics, chemistry and mathematics in the varsity,” said the official of the technical education department.
The BPUT authorities have been directed to set up two grievance cells — in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela — through call centres.
