Bhubaneswar, April 10: A city blogger has joined hands with a US-based writer to bring to the fore tales of everyday women and their indomitable spirit through a book.
Rhiti Bose, 34, founder of the blog "Incredible Women of India", has collaborated with writer and poet Lopamudra Banerjee, based in Dallas, to publish Defiant Dreams: Tales of Everyday Divas.
The book is a collection of 24 stories about the travails and indomitable spirit of the everyday woman. The stories were chosen through a contest on social media. She received 104 entries from which, she narrowed down to the final 24.
Rhiti started blogging in 2014 and her blog features interviews with women who have overcome adversities. "After a few months, my blog had around 40,000 visitors a day. So, I thought of taking it to the next level and publish a book," said Rhiti, who quit teaching six years ago to take up writing. "These women neither belong to high class societies nor are they celebrities. We meet them in our day-to-day lives but, they have also set examples for women around them," she added.
The book was launched in Bhubaneswar at the Walking BookFairs Bookstore here. At the launch, Rhiti interacted with young writers and readers and discussed inspirational stories of women around us. "There are tales of a girl fighting with drug addiction or battling her own insecurity and mistrust of men as well as that of a girl trying to find love amid a hostile family," she added.
From the lanes of Banaras to the hills of Assam, the high-rises of Delhi to the courtyards down south, across urban landscapes and rural settings, the journeys of these women lead them to self-discovery and epiphanies.
Lopamudra, her co-editor, said: "The stories presented here are not heroic portrayals of larger-than-life protagonists. They are chronicles of women who surround us, flawed and vulnerable yet strong and indomitable." The book is available at all bookstores and e-commerce sites.
