Cuttack, Dec. 23: The process of filing applications for birth and death certificates online has not yet materialised in Cuttack, creating difficulties for residents.
Sunyasnat Sahoo, 27, had to make several rounds of the birth and death registration office at Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to file an application for a death certificate for one of his relatives. Many others too have to make many rounds of the office to file applications and collect birth and death certificates.
“We have to come to the birth and death registration office to check the status of our application as no data is available on the CMC website,” said Sahoo.
The official website of the civic body is not being updated and the several citizen charter services, including registering grievances online, have not been addressed either.
Though one can check the status and other details of birth and death registration from Odisha eMunicipality Services, no link is available on the CMC’s official website.
“We had no information about the eMunicipality website. We were logging onto the CMC website, which is not updated,” said Dibakar Mahalik, another applicant.
Registrar, births and deaths, Cuttack Municipal Corporation, P.K. Pradhan said online applications of birth and death certificates would be implemented from next year.
“Online downloading of forms and checking registration of applications for birth and death certificates is available on the Odisha eMunicipality website. However, the link was not provided in the CMC website, which has been rectified today,” said Pradhan.
Pradhan further said that all events of birth and deaths since 1985 have already been uploaded and efforts are on to streamline the online registration process.
