Cuttack, Dec. 14: Police will boost its patrolling system by adding 23 high-power motorcycles to the existing police control room (PCR).
Police commissioner R.P. Sharma today flagged off the motorcycle patrolling system in the city.
The mobile motorcycle patrolling system will be linked with the proposed PCR that will shortly be established at Cantonment road at a cost of Rs 3 crore. Besides, the ultra modern PCR will come up at the new office of the deputy commissioner of police.
“The control room will have the technology to track the PCR vans, which can be centrally controlled to minimise the response time,” said Sharma.
The police had launched the mobile patrolling motorcycles on an experimental basis with five motorbikes on September 26 last year. The new fleet of machines has been added to cover more areas in the city.
“The mobile patrolling system will play a crucial role in checking activities of criminal elements, rash driving on various lanes and bylanes in the city,” said deputy commissioner police S. Praveen Kumar.
All police stations will be provided with one each motorcycle while important police stations, including Madhupatna, Badambadi and Mangalabag, will be provided two motorcycles each.
The officials have been provided with VHF sets, so that they can immediately contact with their respective police stations.
“The PCR bikes will be stationed at strategic locations while they have been asked to keep contacts with all the ATM counters, keep a vigil near major commercial markets, including jewellery shops, within their police station limits,” Kumar said.
Besides, the bikes will also regulate traffic, check traffic violations, drink and rash driving and illegal parking at various places.
