Co-curricular meet
The South Zone Sports and Co-Curricular Championship Meet, 2017, of Southern Sainik Schools was hosted recently at Sainik School in Bhubaneswar. More than 388 cadets took part in the event from various Sainik Schools. The main events were football, volleyball, basketball, hockey and co-curricular activities such as debate, quiz and cultural competitions. Sainik School, Korukonda, Andhra Pradesh, was the overall champion in sports and co-curricular competitions while Sainik School, Bijapur, Karnataka, was the runner-up.
Junior visitors
A delegation of teachers and students from Uganda visited Happy Hours Play and Preschool at Saheed Nagar, Bhubaneswar. The visitors were from Gombe Junior School and Gombe High School of Kampala city in Uganda. The two-and-a-half-hour interaction with the guests included a cultural exchange programme where the international students performed their native dance and shared information about their culture, tradition and language Luganda. The guests also presented the students of Happy Hours Play and Preschool colourful balls made by them from recycled waste.
School prefects
On August 2, the newly chosen prefects of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, took the pledge to serve their alma mater to the best of their ability in the presence of chief guest Col Kirpal Singh, director of the state unit of NCC, and other dignitaries. School principal Sujata administered the pledge to the newly elected cabinet members, such as the school's leader Shibasis Panda, assistant school leader Sefali Pattnaik, house captains Nirlipta Rath (Bhakti), Abhisek Mohanty (Stutee), Soumya Mohanty (Shloka), Shreya Das (Mantra), vice-captains, representatives and club secretaries to uphold the dignity of the school by carrying out their new responsibilities.
Special kids
Wood Apple, a school for special children under Shree Sainiketan Trust, held its annual event Kwizbel in Bhubaneswar. As many as 200 children took part in the programme. Students from DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, DAV Public School, CDA, Sai International School, Ruchika High School, BJEM School and DAV Public School, Pokhariput, took part in the event. An open quiz competition was also organised. The trust has been working for the welfare of children, women and people from economically weaker sections of the society since 2012.
Quiz champs
DAV Regional Directorate, Odisha Zone-I, hosted the second edition of a state-level quiz competition at DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, on August 3. Three students each from classes IX to XII took part in the quiz. Questions were asked on the culture and heritage of India. After a preliminary written test, six best teams will take part in the final round. The winning team will be honoured with the rolling trophy and all participants will get participation certificates.
Science show
A science exhibition was hosted for students of Sonepur district at the Boys' High School at Tarbha last week. Teachers urged the students to work for sanitation, green energy and Digital India. The students also staged a play on the occasion.
