Bhubaneswar, May 1: Police have arrested a man involved in around 50 cases of ATM robbery in and around the city.
The arrest took place in a multiplex yesterday where the accused was watching the Prabhas-starrer Bahubali 2.
The cops had been tracking Sambhav Acharya, 29, a native of Jajpur district, for the past few weeks.
"His mobile phone was traced in the Saheed Nagar area and we found him in the multiplex watching the movie. Subsequently, our men entered the cinema and nabbed him," said deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi.
The police have also seized Rs 19,000 in case from him along with several ATM cards. Acharya was forwarded to court today.
The police said the accused allegedly had looted Rs 60,000 in cash from two ATM counters under Capital Police limits in January after being released from jail in December. Around 50 such cases were pending against him at several police stations in Bhubaneswar, Puri and Jajpur districts.
"He was earlier arrested by Khandagiri police for similar crime. He used to work alone and never involve others. This made it difficult for the police to trace him," said a police official.
Bahubali 2 screening
A special screening of Bahubali 2 was arranged for police personnel of Nayagrah district on Sunday.
Around 170 police personnel along with their family members, police superintendent Kanwar Vishal Singh, watched the movie at Radha Krishna theatre in Nayagarh.
Senior police officials said all officers were not allowed to watch the movie to ensure the functioning of police stations was not affected.
Another special screening will be arranged for the police officers who missed the Sunday show.
