Sambalpur, Feb. 16: Police have identified the busy Golebazar Chhak in the city as a “zero tolerance zone” to check illegal parking in the area.
White lines have been marked around the chhak and notice boards have been put up marking the area as a zero tolerance zone.
Superintendent of police Prateek Mohanty said the cops would penalise anyone who parked his or her car illegally in the area.
“We want to make the Golebazaar Chhak a model chhak of the city,” he said.
The impact of this move is already visible. “The police have taken a good step and traffic jam in the area have already decreased,” said Kailash Sahu, a local resident.
“Pedestrians were also facing problem because of illegal parking at the busy chhak. However, things have changed now,” said Santosh Naik, a commuter.
“The police have recently introduced the speed laser gun to check speeding in the city. And now, they have declared the busy Golebazaar Chhak a zero tolerance zone. These are good moves,” said another local resident, Tarun Meher.
“Illegal parking is a serious problem in the city. One can see vehicles parked haphazardly at several places. The police should also think of declaring some more busy areas of the city as zero tolerance zones,” he said.
“We have also decided to declare the Zilla High School Chhak a zero tolerance zone,” said superintendent of police Prateek Mohanty.
