
Scholastic programme
The British Council’s science communications programme FameLab received overwhelming response in east India with entries from top educational institutes from almost all states, especially Odisha, Bengal and Assam. Twenty-four participants were shortlisted for the East India Finals at KIIT University, which partnered with British Council for the regional finals. Samriddhi Bhutani, an engineering student at Vellore Institute of Technology, won the first prize. The second and third prizes were given to Priyanka Talukdar, a PhD in civil engineering from IIT, Guwahati, and Manishtha Bhattacharyya, a student of Vidyasagar University, Bengal.
Annual fest
A gamut of exciting and mind boggling games and rides, a wide rage of cuisines, foot-tapping musical performances by students of Sai International School spellbound the audience at the school’s ninth Unwind Fest. The fest aimed to foster unity and brotherhood, develop compassion and infuse leadership quality in students. The event was inaugurated by Nalco chairman Tapan Kumar Chand.
Inter-school debate
The Sahodaya Inter-school debate competition was held at DAV Public School Unit-VIII recently, with the host school bagging the first and second positions in the junior group. In the senior group, the first position was bagged by students of O.P. Jindal School, Angul. The students of DAV Public School, Unit-VIII, grabbed the second and third positions.
Sports meet
The air rifle shooting team of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur consisting of Ritesh Jena, Ayusman Harichandan and Prateep Das won gold in the team event at the DAV National Sports (Boys) held in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Ritesh also bagged bronze in the individual category. Students from the school also won gold in the 4x100m relay event in the girls’ meet in Jalandhar, Punjab. The winning athletes were hailed by the principal and school staff and students, who felicitated the and students on their return.
Essay competition
Winners of the Tata Building India School Essay Competition 2015-16 from Odisha were felicitated at the Idcol Auditorium in Bhubaneswar. The theme for the essay competition was Digital Technology for a Better India. The winners were shortlisted from over 1.6 lakh students from over 400 schools for the English and Odia editions. The English edition included students 90 schools from three cities, while the Odia edition saw the participation of 400 schools from 12 cities. The winners were awarded trophies, gifts and certificates at the ceremony in the presence of Kendriya Sahitya Akademi awardee Gourahari Das.
English workshop
Teachers from different CBSE schools from across the state attended an English workshop organised by Macmillan. Representatives from 110 teachers of 54 CBSE-affiliated schools took part. A book titled “New Great Fun with Grammar” was launched by the director of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Dhenkanal, Mrinal Chatterji on the occasion. Regional manager East Macmillan Mahesh Srivastav and resource person Nitasha Guha also spoke at the event.
Constitution Day
Students of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, observed Constitution Day to mark the day on which the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution drafted by B.R. Ambedkar. The students organised different activities. Principal Sujata said the students must uphold the values of the Constitution.
Exhibition
Students of Vikash Residential School, Bhubaneswar, put up impressive scientific models at Sahodaya Schools Complex, Bhubaneswar Chapter, Science Exhibition-2016. IIT, Bhubaneswar dean of research and development R. K. Panda inaugurated the exhibition. He spoke of inculcating scientific temper among kids. Arun Nayak, assistant professor of the Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar and Utkal University researcher Gopal Krishna Pradhan judged the exhibition.
Junior sports
A junior sports meet was held at Blossoms School, Bharatpur, for Pre-Primary students. The students took part in dance, songs, and special sports events. Sorting fruits among blocks for Nursery students, frog jump for lower KG students and lemon spoon and running for upper KG students.
