Cuttack, March 7: The anti-ragging committee of Ravenshaw University would take a final decision on the alleged ragging incident that left one student injured.

A group of final-year students staying at the East Hostel allegedly attacked the victim in the incident.

East Hostel warden Bijay Mishra today submitted a report on the alleged clash between two students’ group in the East Hostel.

“We have received the report and a copy of the FIR lodged by the students today. After examining the report, we will forward it to the anti-raging committee, which will decide whether it was a case of ragging or not,” said registrar Smarapriya Mishra.

According to Mishra, the complainant students have charged the senior students of harassment and ragging but no written complaint in this regard has been received so far.

First-year commerce student Manas Kumar Samantray, who was allegedly injured in the attack by his seniors on Saturday night, was discharged from the S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital today.

It is learnt that the warden, in his report, has highlighted that there was a brawl between two groups of students and an FIR was registered following the alleged manhandling and extortion bid by some senior students.

“So far we have only have statements made by one group of students who had come to meet us on the incident. There is no clear picture on the incident but appropriate steps will be taken following law,” said the warden.

On the other hand, the final-year students had yesterday refuted the allegations of ragging and had termed it as a conspiracy ahead of the crucial verdict on the East Hostel controversy.

“We did not rag or attack anybody. We had asked all the students to sign a memorandum highlighting the problems of the hostel. We had intended to send this to the State Human Rights Commission as there were problems due to inadequate facilities at the hostel,” said Pratap Mohanty, a final- year student.
