Cuttack, Nov. 7: Barely two days after twin baby girls were found abandoned at Cuttack railway station on Saturday, a similar incident was reported today in which a two-week-old baby girl was found under a cabin near the Acharya Harihar Cancer Institute here.
The baby was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital and is said to be doing fine. “The child weighs around 2.6 kg and her condition is stable. However, we will run some tests tomorrow,” hospital sources said.
The baby was spotted and rescued by a 23-year-old youth at around 8.45pm. “I was cycling home when I heard the cry of a baby. The sound led me to a dustbin near a cabin. I immediately informed the police, who took her to the hospital,” said Deepak Kumar Sahoo.
The twin newborn girls, who were earlier rescued from the Cuttack railway station on Saturday evening, were shifted today to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics, popularly known as Sishu Bhavan.
Though the babies were undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, the authorities decided to transfer them to Sishu Bhavan, which is a premier childcare hospital of the state.
“The babies were underweight and vulnerable to infection. Although their condition is not critical, we decided to shift them as a precautionary measure,” said, B.N. Moharana, emergency officer of the hospital. The twins have now been admitted to the intensive care unit of Sishu Bhavan and their condition is stable.
