Angul: Police busted a gang involved in snatching and other crimes in the Talcher-Angul belt. The gang was arrested when the police raided their hideout in the city on Saturday night.
There were nine people in the gang out of which six were nabbed and the other three managed to escape. The absconded criminals include the kingpin of the gang.
The police seized eight motorcycles, all stolen, four mobiles and weapons from their possession.
The arrested persons hail from Angul district, police said.
One bike, which was snatched at Bantala, was returned to the owner, efforts are on to find out owners of other stolen bikes. The police said the gang was also involved in the snatching incident in which a lady was robbed of Rs 20,000 when she was returning from the bank last month. The gang was also involved in a criminal incident last month. The cops said they had snatched Rs 1.6 lakh from a man at Kankinal. The gang members admitted that they were involved in several other crime incidents in Angul and its adjoining areas.
Angul sub-divisional police officer Harihar Pani said: "During the raid the three of the nine members of the gang gave cops the slip. We hope to nab them soon."
