Cuttack, June 26: The municipal corporation has prepared a blueprint for successful implementation of various projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut).
In accordance with the proposals, the civic body has targeted to spend nearly Rs 386 crore towards improvement of the existing urban water supply facility, development of parks and sewage management in the city.
"We have come up with a detailed strategy and are focussing on effective co-ordination between multiple departments for the successful implementation of various projects under the Amrut scheme," said commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Gyana Das.
Das said the public health engineering organisation (PHEO) had come up with a detailed project for improving the water supply by spending Rs 76.41 crore in the 2016-17 financial year.
According to plans, Rs 38 crore would be spent on the replacement of the old pipelines (which has a 97km network) from ward No. 1 to 54 in a phased manner.
An official of the PHEO said Rs 37 crore had been earmarked for installation of water meters to check wastage.
The civic body has also invited tenders to carry out a massive facelift of the existing parks under the corporation limits at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore.
The chief minister had earlier laid the foundation stones for the renovation of four parks - Biswanath Pandit Park at Khannagar, Akshay Mohanty Park at Kanika Chhak, Chandan Pokari Park at Choudhry Bazaar and Jobra Museum Park - on April 14.
Das said: "A private consultancy firm has been roped in to prepare the necessary designs for developing the parks. They will be developed with adequate emphasis on the installation of play equipment for children, seating and lighting arrangements and drinking water facilities."
Odisha Sewerage Board is also preparing a project report worth Rs 1.24 crore to ensure proper disposal of sewage.
On the other hand, several councillors have expressed concern over the timely completion of the projects under Amrut scheme as the civic body has failed to complete various projects, including the renovation of the Town Hall.
At a one-day workshop held on Saturday, the Opposition councillors expressed doubts over the timely completion of the projects under Amrut.
"We hope developmental works do not remain on paper as several projects hang in the balance for the past few years, including the much awaited Town Hall renovation, vending zones and Debi Gada portal," said Giribala Behera, Congress councillor from ward No. 4.
