Koraput: The 1 (Odisha) Infantry Independent Company has established an indoor air rifle shooting range on its premises at Bariniput.
"This 10-metre shooting range will act as a stepping stone for the NCC cadets of this region. The centre will go a long way in motivating students to make a career in shooting. I hope the centre will produce national-level shooters in coming days," said Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, after inaugurating the shooting range on Saturday.
The shooting range has been equipped with all required infrastructures, such as shooting benches, rifle stands, targets and air rifles.
"The cadets from these tribal districts have a keen sense of aiming. The firing range was planned to further enhance their aiming skills," said Colonel Rajesh Kumar Rao, commanding officer of the infantry company.
"The aim of the project is to produce national-level shooters from the tribal-dominated Koraput, Rayagada and Malkangiri districts," he added. Two hundred senior division and 1,150 junior division cadets will benefit from the Nishana shooting range .
