Bhubaneswar, June 26: Meghali Malbika Swain is a prodigy. One can refer to the 10-year-old for any geographical queries and she has it all on her fingertips.

The child prodigy from Bhubaneswar, touted as the virtual encyclopaedia of physical geography, entered the India Book of Records by naming as many as 165 rivers within a minute today.

Meghali flawlessly named 165 rivers of the world at the spot adjudication test for consideration of inclusion into the record book held in the city. She also attempted to create a record by uttering the names of 1,000 rivers in eight minutes time, the result of which will be announced shortly.

"A team of experts were present at the venue who approved her entry into the record book. She has an amazing memory and we look forward to more records from her in the future," said adjudicator Biswadeep Roy Chowdhury.

But, this is not all - and names are not the end - Meghali can tell all about the origin of world's major rivers and also their tributaries with ease.

Meghali said: "I find the names of rivers easier to pronounce and that is why I chose this to enter the record book."

In a blank world map, she can identify and locate all the 196 countries as well as mountains, plateaus, plains, peninsulas, islands, deserts, oceans, seas, bays, gulfs, straits and channels. Also included in her memory list are capitals, currencies, languages as well as national flags.

Meghali was just a four-year-old when her father first noticed her unique talent. "I was teaching students about geography and she was present in the room. She grasped the names of 25 countries in an hour's time and took me by surprise. I started giving her some basic lessons," said Prafulla Kumar Swain, Meghali's father, who is an Odisha Administrative Service officer.

The Class V student of SAI International School also has immense knowledge on geological time periods from the Precambrian to Mesozoic, evolution of life forms and major developments during the time periods.

"She takes great interest in geography and wants to make her career out of it," said Swain.
