
Bhubaneswar, March 29: A batch of 578 students received their degrees at the second convocation of the Xavier University here today.
The degrees were awarded for various programmes such as MBA in business management, rural management, human resource management and postgraduate diploma in film and TV production.
Chairman and managing director of Nestle India Limited Suresh Narayanan presided over the event as the chief guest. He highlighted on the 10 C's of leadership - clarity, competence, credibility, courage, concentration, creativity, constraints, compassion, continuous learning and content. "Constraints are not hurdles in the way to success. Learn more and seek more. 'Ego' is a miserable three-letter question which comes in the way of learning as one grows. Shun ego and envy," said Narayanan.
The top ten rank-holders - Archana Mishra, Saikat Mukherjee, Riga Das, Rituparna Mohanty, Basavanneppa Sankeshwar, Nibedan Kumar Bhawsinka, Jalaj Pathak, Radhika Rajgopal Sarda, Avisekh Kumar Maharana and Nishant Mishra - were awarded gold medals.
Medals were also handed out for outstanding performance to Aseem Patnaik, Archana Mishra, and Radhika Rajgopal Sarda.
In his convocation address, vice-chancellor Father Paul Fernandes congratulated the students and urged them to keep faith in hard work, excellence and sincerity and always rekindle the core values that were imparted to them even at hard times. He also highlighted the achievements of the institute, faculty members and students in 2015-2016.
The premier institute in Bhubaneswar was established in accordance with the Xavier University Act, 2013, and was inaugurated on July 7, 2014. It is India's first digital varsity. The institution is a self-financing unit of higher learning that imparts professional and technical education and offers masters programme in business management through its flagship school - Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar.
It also offers masters programme in human resource through the Xavier School of Human Resource Management, rural management through the Xavier School of Rural Management, sustainability management through its Xavier School of Sustainability and graduate programme in commerce through the Xavier School of Commerce. Apart from these, the institute has proposed to set up other schools of higher learning in various areas such as public policy, media and communications, finance and education.
Rajive Kaul, chairman of NICCO Corporation Limited, Calcutta and varsity registrar Antony Uvary were also present at the ceremony.
