Bhubaneswar, Oct. 9: Cuttack-Bhubaneswar police last night arrested two more persons in connection with the murder of a builder at Rangamathia on the outskirts of the city on September 28.
The police had earlier nabbed three others, including prime suspect Bikal Behera, on charges of killing Ranjan Behera, 29, the secretary of the local puja committee and a builder, because of previous enmity.
On the evening of September 28, Ranjan was attacked by a group of youths and succumbed to injuries on the same night at a private hospital in the city.
Inspector in charge of Mancheswar police station Bharat Sahu said suspects Parsuram Behera and Anil Behera were arrested last night from the city.
“These two have been at large ever since the incident. Acting on a tip-off, we arrested them last night,” said the inspector.
The police had arrested three other persons from different parts of the state last week. Prime suspect Bikal was arrested from Sambalpur town after being spotted by a friend of the deceased. Two other suspects — Dipuna Barik and Deepak Parida — were arrested from Paradip.
Sahu said that till now five persons had been arrested in connection with the murder while four were still at large.
“We have launched a manhunt and will arrest them shortly,” Sahu said.
Ranjan’s relatives said prime suspect Bikal, who has several cases against him, had a quarrel with the village youths on the night of September 24 while they were going to immerse a Ganesh idol. His accomplices attacked Ranjan at a market place near the village four days later. He died at the hospital.
