Guwahati, Sept. 12: Singer-actor Zubeen Garg was embroiled in a fresh controversy after an argument with an unidentified army officer after the latter objected to his wearing an army cap in New Delhi airport yesterday afternoon.

Zubeen, along with some of his fans, was waiting at the airport terminal to board a Guwahati-bound flight around 2.30pm yesterday.

A person, who identified himself as a Major with the army stationed at Tenga in Arunachal Pradesh, asked Zubeen to remove the army cap he was wearing as it was illegal for civilians to wear military outfits, including a cap with an army insignia on it.

The singer refused to remove the cap, which led to an argument.

Zubeen later told reporters here that he had told the officer that 'you are a Major, but I am a colonel and you should salute me'.

Zubeen has played the role of 'Colonel Goswami' in the Assamese movie Mission China, which released on Friday and has got a huge response from the audience. 'I was even thinking of beating up the Major in Guwahati but decided not to do so,' he said.

According to Zubeen, he has 'done nothing wrong'. He was in Delhi to promote his film Mission China that has already scripted a record in revenue realisation within four days of its release on Friday. Distributors claimed nearly Rs 1.35 crore has already been realised from the Rs 2-crore investment in the film.

Sources said the officer had reportedly told Zubeen that he would even ask the biggest star of India not to wear an army cap.

Efforts by The Telegraph to contact Zubeen, who was in Shillong today to promote his film, proved futile. The army also remained tightlipped.

Bikash Kumar Das, a retired air force sergeant from Assam, today wrote to defence minister Nirmala Sitaraman, seeking appropriate action against Zubeen for allegedly insulting an army officer.
