Dibrugarh, June 30: Dibrugarh police today registered a case against Bipul Rava, the president of Dibrugarh District Youth Congress and his two associates, for beating up two engineers of a private company.

The engineers worked for Bristish Oxygen Company, India, (BOC India Ltd), which is involved in the construction of the gas cracker project at Lepetkata in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

The incident took place last evening when the three came to the site office of BOC India Ltd, which is engaged in putting up a nitrogen plant, and started beating up engineers Roshid Habib and Sunil Rajwar who were present there.

“We were chatting after the day’s work, when Rava came in a vehicle with two others whom we could not recognise and started slapping us. When we tried to put up some resistance they became more aggressive and started beating us,” one of the engineers said.

Site-in-charge of the company Anirban Chakravarty today filed an FIR at the Barbaruah police station based upon which the police registered a case (No. 85/2011) under Sections 448/325/506/34 of the IPC.

“We have conducted medical examination upon both the engineers and necessary steps are being initiated to arrest the accused,” Dibyajyoti Dutta, the officer-in-charge of Barbaruah police station, said.

Office-bearers of the Dibrugarh district Congress committee told this correspondent that they were unaware of the incident.

“I am totally unaware of the incident. Do you have the details?” Nityananda Phukon, the general secretary (administration) of the district Congress committee said.
