Dibrugarh, Aug. 26: The body of a 40-year-old woman was found on Dalkhola-Dibrugarh special train at the railway station here this morning.

Police said the body was discovered by the cleaning staff in the washroom of a coach for differently abled people around 6.30am after the train arrived later than its scheduled time of 5.30am.

"The victim has been identified as Swapna Das Dey of Dhekiajuli Bonagaligaon in Tinsukia district. Her handbag, purse and documents were found scattered on her seat. We have asked for CCTV footage from the railways. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of her death," said B. Singpho, the officer-in-charge of Gabharupathar police outpost and the investigating officer.

Police said a cloth was tied across the victim's throat and her clothes were dishevelled, suggesting she might have been sexually assaulted before being strangulated. A camouflaged cap was found near the body, the police said.
