The Assam tourism department on Sunday opened its ropeway service on Samaguri Beel in Nagaon district, the first of its kind in the state. The service will provide tourists a chance to view the lake and the birds in the waterbody from close range. Samaguri Beel is 40km from Nagaon district headquarters.

‘The 16-seater ropeway is the first in the state,’ Anurag Singh, managing director of Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited, told The Telegraph. The services will be open throughout the day.

Another official said the ropeway might attract tourists who go to Kaziranga National Park as the ropeway is on the way to the park.
