Guwahati, July 19: The Veteran Cricket Association of Assam (VCAA) will move the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) for posthumous ex gratia payment to the families of former Ranji cricketers of the state.
Appreciating the role of the ACA in extending grants to former players, the association, in its new executive committee’s first meeting here on Sunday, decided to urge the ACA for similar one-time grants to those who are drawing BCCI pension.
“It is a token of appreciation from the ACA. Therefore, it should be extended to everyone, including those who have already passed away and those who are drawing BCCI pension,” said VCAA secretary Nasir Gul Khan.
It also resolved to move Gauhati University Sports Board to hold the inter-college cricket meet under it regularly and participate in the national inter-university tournament.
The meeting also decided to accommodate representatives from every district of the state in the VCAA.
The VCAA also resolved to observe its foundation day with a daylong programme on October 10, to institute a lifetime achievement award for veteran cricketers and to felicitate last season’s Vijay Hazare Trophy runners-up Assam men’s team and performers from Assam in junior senior and women's tournaments.
The meeting further accommodated veteran players Debajit Chetia and Chinmoy Baruah as executive members in the newly-constituted body.
