Triple crown for Manas

Guwahati, Jan. 1: Sivasagar lad Manas Pratim Kuli bagged triple crowns in the 21st Jorhat Opens tennis tournament that concluded at the Jorhat Tennis Club courts yesterday.

Tutu Thapa of NF Railway, Sreyashi Dutta of Golaghat and Debajyoti Borpujari of Jorhat also bagged double crowns in the tournament.

Kuli lifted the under-14 and under-18 boys’ singles titles and partnered Arnabjan Lahkar of Duliajan to claim the under-14 boys’ doubles title. He beat Uddish Borpujari of Jorhat 6-3, 7-5 for the under-14 singles crown and Rituraj Gogoi of Sivasagar 6-3, 6-2 for the under-18 title.

Kuli and Lahkar defeated the tandem of Arnab Rajkumar of Jorhat and Gyanish Lahon of Guwahati 6-3, 6-0 in the doubles final.

Thapa lifted the men’s singles and doubles titles.

He outplayed Sanjay Mohanty of Guwahati 6-2, 6-1 for the singles title and partnered Debojyoti Borpujari to hand a 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Guwahati duo of Sanjay Mohanty and Ejaj Ahmed for the doubles crown.

Borpujari also won the veteran men’s title with Makhan Gattani of Jorhat, defeating another Jorhat pair of Jiten Misra and Ashok Gattani 7-5, 6-1. Sreyashi Dutta clinched the under-14 and under-18 girls’ singles crowns defeating Manmayuri Saikia of Golaghat 6-1, 6-2 in the under-14 final and Murchana Saharia of Guwahati 6-4, 6-2 in the under-18 title clash. Saharia teamed up with Hemarani Basumatary of Guwahati to beat Sreyashi Dutta and Ria Baruah of Jorhat 6-3, 6-2 for the under-14 girls’ doubles title.

Sampiya Mahanta of Sivasagar lifted the under-12 boys’ singles crown defeating Ronit Bora of Guwahati 6-2, 6-2.
