Tiddim Road triumph

MANIPUR LEAGUE

Imphal, Oct. 18: Tiddim Road Athletic Union prevailed upon Southern Sporting Union 3-2 in the 11th Manipur State League, 2016, played at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.

The day belonged to Nigerian recruit Amos Nathaniel Adisa of Tiddim Road as he spearheaded the win with two goals. Tiddim Road have so far collected 19 points from eight matches, winning six, drawing one and losing one game. SouthernSporting Union have four points from eight matches with a win, a draw and six losses.

Tiddim Road got the early breakthrough when E. Dayananda Singh scored in the fifth minute for the lead. Later, Tiddim Road consolidated from a penalty after L. Sanatomba Singh was brought down by Ajmer Chisty in the 10th minute. Amos Nathaniel Adisa converted the penalty to perfection to make the score 2-0.

However, Southern Sporting Union raced up with L. Bharat Singh scoring in quick sucession in the 25th and 32nd minutes to make the score 2-2 in the first half.

Tiddim Road had the last laugh when Amos Nathaniel Adisa fired in the winning goal in the 55th minute.

In another match, Neroca FC thrashed United Sporting Association 4-1 to collect full points. Ch. Anandkumar Singh (30th minute), Ejiogu Chineedu Emmanual (67th, 86th), Ksh. Malemnganba (83rd) scored for Neroca. The lone goal for United Sporting was scored by Kh. Jacky in the 81st minute. Neroca FC have 19 points from seven matches, winning six and drawing one, while United have seven points from two wins, one draw and four lost games.

Water polo: The Manipur Water Polo Association will hold the 36th State Open Water Polo Tournament, 2016, at Standard College Swimming Pool, Kongba, from November 3 to 6.

Athletics: Kh Sanatombi Devi of SAI RC bagged a gold in the women's shot put in the 36th Manipur State Age Group Athletics Championship, organised by Athletic Association of Manipur, hurling 7.07m at Khuman Lampak main stadium here today.

M. Arundati of Manipur Police Sports Club took the silver with 6.75m.

In women's discus throw, N. Ichantombi of SROY, Singjamei, won the gold with 20.56m, while Sanatombi made it 19.36m for the silver and Arundati, with a throw of 18.28m, bagged the bronze.

Karate: The Assam team secured third position in the fourth North East India Karate Championship held at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok, on October 15 and 16, bagging seven gold, 10 silver and 31 bronze medals. Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya emerged first and second respectively.
