Guwahati, Sept. 21: Teenager Anup Rabha of Goalpara district emerged overall champion, winning the 40-metre Indian round, in the ongoing 26th junior (under-18) national archery championship in Amritsar, Punjab.
The 17-year-old student of Dhupdhara High School garnered 622 points in the individual events for the gold medal. He also won the 40-metre gold with 313 points yesterday.
It was Rabha’s second success at the national level. He had won three medals at last year’s national rural sports meet in West Bengal.
The nine-member Assam team is also participating in the 30 metre and 40 metre Olympic round competitions from today.
The secretary of the Archery Association of Assam, Ashok Basumatary, said it would shortly announce a cash award for Rabha.
The state team comprises Pradip Rabha, Uttam Swargiary, Anup Rabha, Prabil Boro, Gurwindar Singh, Pratima Boro, Bandana Boro, Chayanika Boro and Shibani Basumatary.
The squad has been selected from the state-level under-19 trials held at SAI complex here on August 14 and 15.
