Guwahati, March 25: Tamil Nadu remained on top of the medals tally of the 29th National Masters Athletics Championship today, bagging 21 gold at the end of Day Three of the four-day meet, under way at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Sarusajai.
The team has won 16 silver and 14 bronze till now to total 51 medals. Manipur follows with 16 gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze.
Hosts Assam are trailing in third place, tallying 15 gold, 33 silver and 24 bronze. Altogether 392 athletes from the state are participating in the meet.
Punjab are fourth with 13 gold, 10 silver and five bronze, followed closely by Andhra Pradesh, which have won 13 gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.
Former Asian Games discus thrower Tayabun Nisha bagged the first gold for the hosts on the third day today, winning the women’s above-55 years’ event with a throw of 27.85 metres.
She also bagged the silver in the women’s above-55 years shotput with a throw of 8.36 metres.
Ramesh Babo of Kerala and B. Kamin of Jharkhand have been crowned the fastest man and woman of the meet, bagging the gold in the above-50 years 100-metre sprints. Babo clocked 12.19 seconds in the men’s event while Kamin clocked 15.51 seconds.
Parama Nanda Dutta of Assam and Coasao Fernandes of Goa bagged the men’s above-50 silver and bronze respectively, clocking 12.33 and 12.65 seconds.
In the women’s above-50 100-metre sprint, N. Ibelei Devi (15.77 seconds) of Manipur and Anjali Rajkhowa (16.16 seconds) of Assam trailed Kamin for the silver and bronze.
Mineswari Gogoi and Lila Gogoi bagged the gold for Assam in the women’s above-55 and above-65 age group 100-metre sprints clocking 16.9 and 18.1 seconds.
Saurindra Basumatary bagged gold for the hosts in the men’s above-75 100-metre sprint clocking 16.14 seconds.
Some of the events, which were scheduled to be held today have been postponed till tomorrow, the last day of the meet.
