Guwahati, Aug. 26: The Assam Table Tennis Association will elect its new executive body at the annual general meeting to be held in Jorhat on September 16.
The elections, which were originally scheduled to be held at Friday’s annual general meeting, was postponed after the meeting had to be adjourned because of time constraint to meet election formalities. Apart from the president and secretary’s posts, elections will be held to almost all the posts.
Incumbent president Jiten Gogoi said Friday’s elections had to be adjourned, after his opponent, Robin Bordoloi, demanded that all norms, including the presence of an election official of the rank of an executive magistrate and an Assam Olympic Association observer, be followed.
Incumbent secretary Abbasuddin Ahmed will fight Tridiv Duvarah and Nayan Jyoti Sarma in a triangular contest. Nominations for contests to other posts were also filed on Friday. Sources said the candidates are trying to reach an amicable settlement to elect the new office bearers without going to the ballots.
This will be the first election in the history of the tennis association.
