St Francis boys win

Guwahati, June 5: Divine Buds High School, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti and St Francis High School won their respective matches in the 2nd Arup Hazarika All-Assam Inter-School Under-14 Cricket Tournament at Dispur Parade Ground here today.

Divine and Sarala Birla defeated Paramount High School and Srimanta Sankar Academy respectively by an identical margin of 14 runs while St Francis humbled Army Public School (Narangi) by 10 wickets.

In the first match, Divine opted to bat and posted 73 in 10 overs. Papu Pal was the topscorer with 17 runs. For Paramount, pace bowler Mubarak Hussain bagged three wickets while spinner Pinku Sarma took two. In reply, Paramount managed 59 for the loss of six wickets. Only Mubarak Hussain managed to score 19 off 19 balls. Man of the Match Diganta Bharali bagged three wickets for Divine.

In the second match, Sarala opted to bat and were restricted to 68 for six in 12 overs. Opener Aditya Gautam led the attack with a breezy 27 while Jeet Kalita chipped in with 10 runs. For Sankar, Aditya Bharali bagged a couple of wickets.

In reply, Sankar, fell short of their target by 15 runs, losing eight wickets. Aditya Bharali (11) was the only batsmen to get to double figures. Sarala pacer Akshay Sarma came up with a decisive spell of two for seven in two overs.

Aditya Gautam of Sarala was named the Man of the Match.

In the third match of the day, Army Public School, put to bat, posted 79 for seven in 12 overs. Barring Sashank Dutta, who struck a 34-ball 35, the remaining failed to impress. St Francis offie Surinder Singh took two for five while seamer Mayur Phukan also bagged a couple for 15 runs.

St Francis reached their target in nine overs only, scoring 81 for no loss. Man of the Match Surinder led the attack with the bat, too, racing to 45 off just 36 balls while his partner Madan Terang came up with a 32-run cameo off 21 deliveries.
