Sujoy Tarafdar in Ranji squad

Guwahati: The Assam Cricket Association on Tuesday named under-19 medium pacer Sujoy Tarafdar in the state Ranji team. Granting a request made by coach Sanath Kumar K, Tarafdar, who is doing state duty in the Cooch Behar Trophy at Baroda, has been asked to fly back for the Assam-Goa Ranji match here from November 23 to 26. ACA secretary Bikash Baruah said one of the 15 named earlier will have to be dropped to accommodate Tarafdar.

Rural meet

Guwahati: The all-India rural sports meet Group-III will be held at Kokrajhar from January 4 to 7. An organising committee was formed on Tuesday with BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary as chief patron and his deputy Kampha Borgayari and BTC under-secretary Robinson Mushahary as president and secretary respectively. The meet will comprise athletics, hockey and wrestling.

Latasil ahead

Guwahati: Latasil Soccer Club on Tuesday booked a berth in the Guwahati Sports Association’s second division football league, defeating Deepjyoti Club, Chandmari, by a solitary goal in the final of the 2005 edition of the third division tournament. Prahlad Mallick scored the all-important goal.
