Meet deferred

Guwahati: The 2nd Airtel GTC Challenge Trophy prize-money football tournament, which was scheduled to commence on Friday, has been deferred by about 10 days in view of the prevailing inclement weather.

Imphal: Three Manipur women cyclists — Ch. Rameshowri Devi, N. Chaoba Devi and Th. Helen Devi — are representing India in the 28th Asian Cycling Championship under way in Indonesia from August 14 to 20.

Badminton

Dibrugarh: The 3rd All Assam Super Ranking Badminton Tournament got under way on Thursday afternoon at Digboi Indoor Stadium in Assam’s Tinsukia district. Around 300 shuttlers from all over the state are participating in the meet.

Kickboxing

Imphal: Manipur kickboxer S. Lemba Meitei has been selected to represent India in the 3rd Indoor Asian Games to be held in Vietnam from October 30 to November 8. Lemba will fight in the 67kg category. S. Umananda Singh has been appointed as team coach by the Indian Association of Kick Boxing.

Guwahati: Sijars Table Tennis Club will organise the Pesko 26th All-Guwahati Keshab Chandra Deka Open Table Tennis Championship at the Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Hall here from August 22 to 23.

Award

Guwahati: Assam martial arts trainer Gome Thapa was awarded the Outstanding Trainer award in the male sanshou event in the World Guoshu Competition and International Kung-fu Festival in Hong Kong from July 21 to 26.
