Imphal: Accountant General emerged champions of the men’s carom competition of the 7th Inter-Civil Services Sports Meet 2009-10 at SAI RC Complex at Takyelpat. They defeated BSNL for the title. Akhampat DOEACC beat Central Agricultural University for the champion’s title in the women’s final. In football, SAI RC defeated Regional Tasar Centre by 1-0 goal while BSNL drubbed Indian Council of Agricultural Research by 8-0 goals, Akhampat DOEACC had 1-1 draw against Accountant General and Customs had a goalless draw against DDK Imphal.

Bud Challenge

Guwahati: Bud Cricket Club, Guwahati, will organise the 8th Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge cricket tournament at the Nehru Stadium here from January 20 to 30. Altogether six teams will participate in the league-cum-knockout tournament.

Workshop

Guwahati: Altogether seven state athletics officials have been invited among 215 from across the nation for a three-day workshop of athletics technical officials in event organising for the Commonwealth Games 2010 at New Delhi from January 29. They are Pradip Nunisa, Sarif Ullah, Tayabun Nisha, Diganta Saikia, Nipon Das, Nalin Sarma and Anima Guha Roy.

Tennis title

Guwahati: Assam player Madhuryya Dutta annexed the doubles title partnering Ansu Kumar Bhuyan of Orissa in the AITA Super Series Tennis Championship for under-16 boys at Rourkela on Friday. The duo beat Andhra Pradesh tandem of Sheikh Abdullah and AK Partha Sarathi 1-6, 6-4, 11-9 in the final. Dutta had earlier went down to Partha Sarathi 4-6, 4-6 in the boys’ singles semi-final.

Selection trial

Guwahati: The trial camp to prepare the Guwahati under-21 team for the inter-district championship, to be held at Chabua from January 22, will be held at the Nehru Stadium here on January 18. Interested eligible players have been asked to report at the stadium at 7am on Monday. Probables

Guwahati: The ACA on Sunday named 27 probables for the Vijay Hazare Trophy limited-over cricket tournament to be played in Cuttack from February 10. The probables are: Amol Muzumdar, Dheeraj Jadhav, Amit Simha, Parvez Aziz, Tarjinder Singh, Abhijit Singha Roy, Rishav Das, Deepak Sharma, Shiv Sankar Roy, Gokul Sharma, Arminder Singh Oberoi, Pritam Debnath, Kangkan Das, Pabitra Doley, Abu Nechim Ahmed, Sujoy Tarafdar, Ranjit Mali, Krishna Das, Arup Das, Pritam Das, Dhiraj Goswami, Swarupam Purkayastha, Sairaj Bahutule, Arlen Konwar, Prasanta Sonowal, Kunal Saikia and Rajdeep Das. The trials will be held at Nehru Stadium here from January 27.
