Fariha's new records
Guwahati: Fariha Zaman of Guwahati bagged three golds, setting two new records in the recent all-India national school games (swimming) at Sirsa in Haryana.
She set new records in 50 metre backstroke and 50 metre butterfly events. She also won the 100 metre backstroke gold. Apart from Fariha?s three golds, Assam won a silver and three bronze medals.
OIL in Gold Cup final
Kokrajhar: OIL, Duliajan set up a November 14 title clash with SAI Sports Club, Guwahati routing Customs Sports Club, Calcutta 4-0 in Friday?s second semifinal of the 3rd Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary Gold Cup Football Championship at Bodosa Nwgwr Bangaldoba ground in Chirang district. Birjab Mushahary, Mrinal Boro, Bhim Kanta Sonowal and Tridib Khound fired for the winners. However, the quality of the game suffered when three players from the two sides had to be sent off by referee Deepak Dey. Dhananjoy Boro of OIL and Rakesh Das of Customs were red carded for violent play in the 41st minute. Another Customs player Somnath Pramanik was shown a red card in the 69th minute for using abusive language.
