Calcutta side reaches final

Kokrajhar: George Telegraph of Calcutta reached the final of the ninth Sujit Narzary Gold Cup football meet here on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Nepali XI of Sikkim. Kenyan recruit Francis, Suban Das and Sunday Tho scored. Discovery Club will play Sports Authority of India in the second semi-final on Wednesday.

Veteran dies

Kokrajhar: Veteran footballer Anil Mohilary of Debargaon, Kokrajhar district, passed away in Guwahati on Monday. He was 44. Mohilary played for Assam in the Santosh Trophy in 1984 and 1985.

SAI stipend

Guwahati: The Sports Authority of India, Guwahati, released annual scholarships of Rs 5,400 per head to 80 state-level sportspersons from Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon districts on Tuesday.

Demise

Guwahati: Assam kho-kho player Baijyanti Boro of Khetri died on Monday night of cerebral malaria. The 19-year-old was taken ill while attending a coaching camp at Sonapur.

Plea to Bihar

Guwahati: The Assam Olympic Association has written to Bihar on Monday to ensure the safety of the sportspersons travelling by train through the state. The AOA condemned the assault on members of the Assam netball team in Begucharai recently.
