Guwahati, July 5: All seeded players sailed smoothly into the second round of the Oil India Ltd AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Chachal Tennis Complex here under the aegis of the All Assam Tennis Association today.
The day witnessed hardly any challenging contests on the courts in the under-14 boys and girls’ singles first round.
The day’s proceedings started two-and-a-half hours late because of yesterday’s rain and moisture on the courts.
Girls’ seeded players Dhruti Venugopal (Maharastra), Jasmine Kaur Bajaj (Delhi) and Roma Chandran (Tamil Nadu) faced little challenge from their respective opponents to march ahead while on the boys’ courts, top seed Sahil Deshmukh had to sweat it out against Assam wildcard entry Amlanjyoti Baruah for a 7-5 6-1 victory.
Third seed S.D. Pranjwal Dev of Karnataka lost the first set 4-6 against Assam qualifier Manash Gogoi before coming back to win 6-1, 6-0.
