Agartala, June 5: Altogether 68.78 per cent of the students who sat for Madhyamik examination in Tripura this year have passed. The results of Madhyamik, Madrassa Madhyamik and Madrassa Alim exams were declared today.

The president of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), Amitava Debroy, said the pass rate had improved by 2.39 per cent over the 66.39 per cent achieved last year. He said the results were declared within three months.

“Altogether 45,389 students had taken the exam, of which 32,867 have passed. The number of students who appeared this year was 1 per cent less than last year,” he said.

Boys outshone girls in Madhyamik with a pass rate of 70.84 per cent compared to 60.74 per cent for girls.

Altogether 15 students, including six girls, bagged ranks in the top 10 merit list of Madhyamik. Debasmita Saha of Shishu Vihar Higher Secondary School in Agartala stood first securing 667 out of 700 marks, while Saurav Paul of Halahali HS School in Kamalpur subdivision stood second with 663 marks.

Sanchari Debnath (661) of Dharmanagar Girls’ HS School shared the third position with Prajna Roy of Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan.

Sagarika Mazumder (655) of Shishu Niketan School in Ranir Bazar here secured the fourth position while Tanmay Paul (654) of Henry Derozio School here obtained the fifth position in the merit list.

Among schools, Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan of Agartala captured four positions, while Shishu Vihar HS School here secured two positions.

Debroy said 7,075 students had taken Madhyamik exam from the Autonomous District Council area and the pass rate was 45.96 per cent, an increase of 2.5 per cent over last year’s figure of 43.46 per cent.

Of the 908 schools from where students appeared for Madhyamik, 118 schools achieved hundred per cent pass rate, compared to 92 last year. No student passed from 16 schools compared to 14 schools last year.

Among the eight districts, South Tripura had the best pass rate of 82.47 per cent, while the success rate was the lowest in Khowai at 55.73 per cent. “Among the successful candidates, 2,790 obtained first division, 3,848 secured second division and 15,969 students achieved third division,” Debroy said.

Students belonging to Scheduled Caste category performed better than the overall pass percentage of 68.78 per cent with 75.30 per cent of the total 6,307 students clearing the exam. Students belonging to indigenous category did not perform well, with 47.29 per cent of the total 8,827 students passing the exam. “This is not a very healthy sign and we will intensify our efforts to improve the performance of indigenous students,” he said.

Debroy said the two candidates for Madrassa Madhyamik had passed the exam, while 28 of the 42 candidates appearing for Madrasa Alim had cleared the exam.
