Hailakandi, June 9: The District Sports Association (DSA), Silchar, has decided to organise a first division football league from June 13.

DSA football secretary Bikash Das said the league matches would be held at Silchar Sporting ground. The opening match will be played between Itkhola Sporting and Kallol Sangha. Itkhola were promoted to first division after they emerged champions in the second division last year.

Rongmei Club were champions in the first division last year and promoted to the Super League. A total of six teams will contest and the final will be on June 27, Das said. The other four teams are Green Hornet, United Club, Police Athletic Club and Student Athletic Club.

A meeting of the football section was held to finalise the fixture of the DSA's other football tournaments. The meeting decided to give individual awards in various categories, including Man of the Match, in every tie. The individual awards will be named Hiralal Sharma Trophy. The champions will get Paresh Chandra Das Trophy, and a cash prize, while the runners-up will get the Surendra Chandra Pal Trophy and prize money.

The DSA will ask the clubs to register their plays before the league begins. It will organise the third division league in July. Another resolution was to introduce an under-16 club league but it will be finalised after discussions with the clubs concerned.
