Shillong, Aug. 16: An airhostess from Shillong was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Calcutta today.

Superintendent of police (city) Vivek Syiem said Calcutta police had informed him that the airhostess, identified as Clara Bansharai Khongsit, 23, was found in a pool of blood with serious head and body injuries on the road in front of her residential apartment building at Keshtopur under Baguiati police station near the airport.

Khongsit's body was noticed by passersby around 4am and they informed the police. Baguiati police registered a case of unnatural death. "The body was taken for post mortem and it is likely to be brought to Shillong tomorrow," Syiem said quoting Calcutta police.

Syiem said Calcutta police have detained two persons, a man and a woman, who were her friends, for interrogation.

Khongsit had reportedly attended a friend's birthday party in an apartment at Prafulla Kanan in Kestopur area last night.

Police are yet to ascertain whether Khongsit had fallen down from the apartment or was killed.

Family sources said Khongsit, a resident of Lumparing locality here who was employed with a private airlines, had completed her Class XII (arts) from St Anthony's Higher Secondary School here and her graduation (in political science honours) from Lady Keane College in 2013, after which she trained for a career as an airhostess at a private institute here. She joined IndiGo about eight months ago as flight attendant (in-flight services) in Calcutta.

Khongsit's relatives, including her elder brother, Anthony, reached Calcutta today.
