Agartala, Sept. 25: Sadar subdivision set five records to clinch the team title in the state women’s powerlifting championship here today.
Udaipur subdivision had to be content with the runners-up trophy.
Sadar lifter Rinku Das set the floor ablaze, setting up state records and taking the gold in five events — back squat, bench press, dead lift and total weight. She pipped Mangaleswari Jamatya of Udaipur and Sheuli Shil of Belonia to the next two positions.
In the 46-kg class, Shanti Kaya Jamatya of Udaipur captured the first position in the back squat while Sima Ghosh of Sadar came second. In the 64-kg class, Kajal Das of Sadar took the title, beating Atikanya Jamatya of Udaipur to the second position.
In the above 64-kg class, the first and second positions went to Bijaya Debbarma of Sadar and Moni Biswas of Belonia subdivision. In the 54-kg category, Sima Saha of Sadar and Suron Bhakti Jamatya of Udaipur came first and second respectively, while in the 59-kg class, Sandhya Rani Das of Udaipur and Bandana Sarkar of Sadar captured the first two positions respectively.
Handball meet
The 21st state handball championship for men and women will begin on September 26 in Barkathal under Sonamura subdivision of West Tripura.
Minister for fisheries Sukumar Barman will inaugurate the meet. Dharmanagar and Longtarai Valley subdivisions will send only their men’s team. Tripura Handball Association secretary Rupen Bhowmik said the championship will end on September 29.
