Imphal: Asian Games wushu bronze medallist Naorem Roshibina Devi credited her feat to her coaches said she had tried her best to win the gold at Jakarta.

Roshibina, 15, lost 0-1 to Cai Yingying of China in the women's sanda 60kg semi-final in the ongoing 18th Asian Games at Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.

She arrived at Tulihal International Airport here from Jakarta on Monday evening to a rousing welcome by family members and well-wishers. Later, she was feted by the residents of Kwasiphai Bazar in Bishnupur district.

The bronze medallist said every player's dream is to win the gold medal. She said gave her best shot but had to settle for the bronze but this, too, was not an easy achievement. "I give credit to my coaches and parents, who shaped me and encouraged me never to give up," the Asian Junior Wushu Champion, 2017, said. "I am a determined fighter and will make a stronger performance in future," she added.

M. Premkumar Singh, Wushu coach at the Sports Authority of India's Special Area Games, who had accompanied the players to Jakarta, said Roshibina was a hardworking and determined fighter. She gave her best in every round but she was young and there was room for improvement. He said her achievement in the Asian Games was a proud moment not only for Manipur but the entire country.

BJP legislator from Oinam L. Radhakishore Singh, Congress legislator from Bishnupur Govindas Konthoujam, Manipur Wushu Association vice-president H. Jaydev Sharma and other dignitaries graced the felicitation programme.

There were six wushu players in the Indian squad, all from Manipur. Roshibina was the only medal winner.

There are 46 players from the state in the Indian squad in 11 events in the 18th Asian Games. Boxer Sarjubala Devi was one of the medal prospects in the 51kg flyweight category but she bowed out in the quarter-final on Wednesday.
