Guwahati, June 4: City shuttlers Ashmita Chaliha and Rishav Sharma annexed the doubles crown in the 2nd All Assam Ranking Badminton Championship that concluded at Don Bosco School indoor stadium here today.
Ashmita also lifted the under-15 girls’ singles title defeating Meghna Borbora of Dibrugarh 21-19, 21-9. She also won the U-17 girls’ singles title defeating Ningshi Block Hazarika of Dibrugarh 21-6, 13-21, 21-13 in the final.
Ningshi on the other hand, claimed the U-19 girls’ crown beating Harshita Chaliha of Guwahati 25-23, 21-18.
Rishav Sharma got the better of another Guwahati lad, Deepjyoti Dutta, 21-13, 21-11 for the U-19 boys’ singles crown and also came back from a set behind to defeat Deepjyoti 13-21, 21-12, 21-16 for the boys’ U-17 singles title.
Hirak Jyoti Neog of Dibrugarh and Kaberi Phukan of Sivasagar won the men and women’s titles respectively. Neog defeated city lad Angshuman Hazarika 21-17, 21-12 for the men’s title while Phukan eased past Rituparna Kalita 21-10, 21-6.
Pragyan Jyoti Gogoi of Nagaon won the U-13 boys’ singles title defeating Orijit Chaliha of Guwahati 21-13, 21-11 in the final. Another Nagaon boy, Rajsekhar Das, won the U-15 boys’ singles title defeating Orijit 21-17, 22-20.
Kasturi Phukan of Tinsukia lifted the U-13 girls’ singles crown defeating Adrita Buragohain of Dibrugarh 21-9, 21-10. Ayan Rashid of Guwahati and Rajkumari Indrani Gogoi of Nazira had yesterday lifted the U-10 boys’ and girls’ singles titles respectively.
Rashid defeated Navyaranjan Das of Sivasagar 21-17, 21-5 for the boys’ title while Gogoi overcame Debhauti Lahon of Nazira 21-19, 8-21, 21-15 for the girls’ crown.
Kickboxing squad: A 62-member Assam contingent will participate in the 17th junior and 18th senior National Kickboxing Championship to be held at Swarna Bharti indoor stadium in Visakhapatnam from August 22 to 26.
Biswajit Kakoti, Suraj Sarma and Kishore Kr Rabha will accompany the squad as team manager, coach and referee respectively.
