Guwahati, March 18: Early showers and intermittent drizzles played spoilsport on the second day of the three-day final match of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy plate group tournament between Goalpara and Karbi Anglong at Nehru Stadium here today.

Weather permitted only 27 overs of play after lunch this afternoon during which Karbi Anglong, who resumed at the overnight 29 for one, lost three wickets to be reduced to 90 for four in 38 overs when play was called off today.

Goalpara all-rounder Jyoti Medhi scalped two of the wickets this afternoon to return with figures of three for 10 in 10 overs. Debo Nath picked up one for 23.

Overnight not out batsmen Sar-In Phangcho and Amarson Teron shared a 45-run partnership in 108 balls this afternoon before Medhi struck for his first scalp today.

Phangcho scored 24 (4x2) and Teron 26 (4x1).

Goalpara yesterday rode piggyback upon an 88-run knock by Medhi to pile up 290 in 80.4 overs in the first innings.

If weather permits play tomorrow, Karbi Anglong will have to toil hard against an experienced bowling attack to stick to the wicket on the last day tomorrow to tilt the match their way.

Police hockey: Border Security Force (BSF), Guwahati will meet Punjab Police in the final of the 59th All India Police Hockey Championship at Maulana M. Tayebulla Hockey Stadium here on Saturday.

In the semi-finals played on Friday, BSF blanked Central Industrial Security Force 3-0 and Punjab Police got the better of Central Reserve Police Force 1-0.

The final will be preceded by the third place play-off between CRPF and CISF.
