Sept. 7: There is plenty in store for people with whom quizzing is a passion. Assam police in association with the Trivia Bytes Creation is organising a quiz contest, Cop Quest 2005, on September 30, at the Pragjyoti ITA Cultural Complex auditorium.

The quiz is organised to celebrate Assam Police Day. Dilip Bora, inspector-general of police (administration), said the main aim of the event is to develop better police-public relationship and to give students a chance to expand their knowledge base.

The event is being organised at the Northeast level.

The show is divided into two segments, the school quiz and the open quiz. The first segment is meant for school students from Classes V to XII. There is no restriction on the number of teams participating from a school. Each team will comprise two members. The best three teams in the finals will receive cash prize of Rs 12,000, Rs 8,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. The other three finalists will receive cash prize of Rs 2,000 each. There will also be a best audience prize of Rs 2,000.

X-quiz me!, which is a part of the open quiz segment, will be open for all, and people from all age-groups could participate in this segment. Participants will receive cash prizes of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively. “The basic motive is to get people interested in quizzing. According to popular perception, quizzing is meant only for the intellectuals and the highly educated. The common man has got nothing to do with it. We want to break such popular stereotypes,” said Manimugdha Sharma, a representative of Trivia Bytes Creation.

The cop quest will have an audio-visual round and special emphasis will be laid on questions based on the northeastern states. There will other regular rounds of questions based on current affairs, general knowledge, politics, economics, sports and art. “Trivia with its innovative ideas is making quiz contests not only a great learning process, but also an interesting and entertaining exercise, for both the participants and the audience,” said Sharma.
