Programme to promote science

The Jorhat Science Centre and Planetarium is organising a two-day district-level prize-money inter-school science seminar and poster competition in association with Kaziranga University from Sunday to celebrate National Science Day.

Jorhat, Feb. 23: The Jorhat Science Centre and Planetarium is organising a two-day district-level prize-money inter-school science seminar and poster competition in association with Kaziranga University from Sunday to celebrate National Science Day.

The curator of the planetarium, Pranabjyoti Chetia, today said they decided to organise the seminar and poster competition at the secondary level - classes IX to XII - to encourage interest in science.

Resource persons will also deliver talks on science as part of the programme.

Chetia said a seminar competition on Indigenous Scientific Inventions of India during the 20th Century, will be held on Sunday with each school team allotted 10 minutes to give a presentation. They can also give PowerPoint presentations. Each team will have a maximum of three and minimum of two students.

The curator said the poster competition on Role of Science and Technology for the Development of Mankind would be held on the campus of Kaziranga University.

The top three winners of the competitions will be given cash prizes and certificates, he said.

Chetia said resource persons from Assam Science Technology and Environment Council, North East Space Applications Centre (Shillong), a Kaziranga University faculty member and he would deliver the talks.
