Guwahati: The first bio methanol power plant of the Northeast will be set up here by the GMC.

GMC officials said the plant will be set up at Paltan Bazar, where it will have the capacity to produce 750 units from five tonnes of garbage in a day. "The plant will have the capacity to decompose five tonnes of biodegradable garb-age in a day, from which we can produce 500 cubic metres of methane gas, which can generate 750 units of electricity. We will use it for street lights," one of them said.

GMC mayor Mrigen Sarania said the plant would be implemented soon. It will be set up on two kathas and will cost around Rs 1.5 crore. Its construction will be done in the first half of 2018, officials said.
