Dhubri: The Dhubri chief judicial magistrate on Wednesday sent Jorhat senior sub-registrar Atul Hafila to two days' police custody after he was produced in court in connection with a forgery case.

Additional superintendent of police Gunindra Deka told reporters that they have specific information about his involvement in the sale of land deeds. "We are examining all aspects of the case and we are confident we will arrest more persons involved in the scam soon," he said.

Deka said two persons who had been earlier arrested in connection with the case by Dhubri police, Mozzafar Hussain and Khalilur Zaman Seikh, are registered deed writers and not employees of the registrar's office here.

The duo were arrested on August 29 following the recovery of fake documents and seals of additional deputy commissioner, Dhubri, from them.

The same came to light after Dhubri ADC while carrying out verification of 422 no-objection certificates required for land deed sale and gift found that 265 of them were forged.

The first complaint was lodged on April 5 by former ADC P.P. Bora and the second was lodged on May 30 by present ADC Enamul Hussain.

Hafila was the sub-registrar of Dhubri during this period and the police suspected his involvement in the scam.

Hafila, who is now posted as senior sub-registrar of Jorhat district, was arrested by Dhubri police from Jorhat on Tuesday and charged under Sections 120B, 420, 468 and 471 of the IPC.
