The Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation is now making another movie - Sringkhal, based on a short story penned by writer and filmmaker Bhabendranath Saikia.

With Sringkhal, documentary filmmaker Prabin Hazarika will make his directorial debut.

The film will feature veteran actor Adil Hussain, who has worked in international films like The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) and Life of Pi (2012).

Besides Hussain, Jaya Seal, Badal Das, Saurav Hazarika and Prativa Chowdhury are others who will share screen space in pivotal roles.

Shot on 35mm camera, the 100-minute film will tell the story of a village widow and her four children.

In the film, Ambika brings home four pigeons that were set free. She is faced with a dilemma as her children want to eat the pigeons and a neighbour wants her to set them free.

For director Hazarika, to find a village without a touch of modern life was not easy.

“Today, it’s hard to find a village, which would have only bamboo huts and without roads and other communication facilities. We belong to a century which is developing rapidly and technology is penetrating everywhere. Though a good thing, it becomes difficult for the people from the creative field who need to project a village atmosphere in their work,” he said.

Finally, the director zeroed in on Siphajar’s Gokukoti village.

Shooting for 20-day schedule commenced on November 27.

Preeti Saikia, Partha Pratim Bora, Sangeeta Saikia and Dipendra Patowary are the co-producers of the film.

Assamese film

After Baandhon, director Jahnu Barua is making another Assamese film based on a Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel, Ashirbadar Rong, penned by Arun Sarma.

Film exhibitor, distributor and producer Shankar Lall Goenka, under the banner of his newly formed film production house — Shiven Arts — will produce the film. The muhurat of the film was on November 30 in Guwahati.

Barua said the film, whose name is yet to be finalised, would be based on the period of freedom struggle and would show the contrast of human values between that time and now.

New faces will feature in the film.

“The shooting will of the 90-minute film will begin in the first week of January in Tinsukia district ,” said Barua.

The film will release in October.
