Mizoram, Tripura on ONGC map

The Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) and other agencies have estimated that there is at least 5,000 million metric tonne of natural gas in the Tripura and Mizoram sector. he Centre has selected the collaboration of ONGC and IOC to undertake the work of exploration and exportation on a four-year contract basis, the Mizoram Intodelhna Project Executive Authority revealed on Tuesday. However, the Mizoram government is yet to grant permission.

Review meeting

Union minister of state for civil aviation Rajiv Pratap Rudy will attend a review meeting of Airport Authority of India, Air-India and Indian Airlines on Friday in Guwahati. The minister will visit the city to attend a local programme.

Rape allegation

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an autorickshaw driver on Tuesday night in Guwahati. The girl who hails from Nalbari, had lost her way in the city. The autorickshaw driver, Mamudur Rehman, took her home on the pretext of helping her and committed the offence. Later when he tried to leave the girl at Chandmari flyover, she screamed attracting attention of passersby. He, however, managed to escape.

Book released

A collection of short stories, Hudumdeo Aru Annanya Galpa, written by Imran Hussain and published by Sahitya Akademi was released by litterateur Jayanta Mahapatra on Wednesday. Poet Kikie N. Daruwalla was also present.

Education

The Sarba Siksha Abhiyan has launched a five-day orientation and training programme for facilitating integrated education for children with special needs, with Ashadeep, an NGO working in the field of mental health.

Science exhibit

With its peaceful atmosphere and availability of materials, Mizoram is wide open to scientific research, chief minister Zoramthanga said on Wednesday while inaugurating a three-day science exhibition at the Aijal Club in Aizawl.

Blood bank

A blood bank was inaugurated at the Karimganj civil hospital by minister of state for cooperation Misbahul Islam Laskar. Joint secretary, health services, Ashutosh Das said Rs 2 lakh was given from the untied fund and Rs 1 lakh was sanctioned by AIDS Control Society, Assam.
