Imphal, Nov. 18: Neroca FC moved into the final after thrashing Nambul Mapal Cultural Organisation 4-1 in the second phase of the 11th Manipur State League, 2016, played on knockout basis at the main stadium, Khuman Lampak.
Neroca FC, who had an undefeated run in the league, found the going easy when Ksh. Malemnganba Singh scored the opening goal in the 36th minute for a lead in the first half.
The second half proved more fruitful for Neroca FC when S. Subash Singh jumped on to a loose ball from the keeper to slot home his team's second goal in the 64th minute to post a 2-0 lead.
However, the persistent effort of Nambul Mapal Cultural Organisation paid off in the 79th minute from a penalty. A corner kick from K. Suraj of Nabul Mapal found Julian Keishing, who was fouled by Neroca player K. Kallon Varney. In the resulting penalty, Th. Modhumangol made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
Neroca FC surged up with more force and got rich dividends when M. Govin Singh netted home, after collecting a free kick from Subash Singh, in the 89th minute to lead 3-1. Later, S. Subash Singh came up with his second goal during injury time, off a cross from Resisangmei Khodang for the victory, en route to the final.
Nambul Mapal Cultural Organisation player Ch. Roshan Singh was booked with a yellow card. In tomorrow's match, Anouba Imagi Mangal will face FC Zalen in the quarter-final at 1.30pm.
Winners' cup: Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation moved into the semi-final beating AFC, Churchandpur, 4-3, during penalty shootout in the Th. Birachandra and Maipakpi Memorial 21st Winners' Cup, 2016, played on artificial turf, Khuman Lampak, today.
State-level gymnastics: Gracemi Pangambam claimed two gold medals for NPSS Lamsang in the 38thsub-junior, junior, senior artistic and aerobic state-level gymnastics championship, 2016, which got underway at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium here today.
In the under-eight girls' balancing beam, Gracemi claimed the gold with 6.5 points. Anjori Pangambam fetched silver (6.2) and L. Jesce took bronze (6.1).
Gracemi claimed her second gold medal in the floor exercises with 7 points while K. Princesla got silver (6.5) and Anjori Pangambam got bronze (6.3).
H. Tanuja Devi claimed two gold medals in the under-10 girls' floor exercise and balancing beam.
In the boys' under-eight floor exercise, H. Premraj of NPSS, Lamsang, got gold with 7.8 points while N. Deepak on 7.5 and T. Yoihenba on 7, both of HYO, settled for silver and bronze respectively.
The other gold medallists of the day are Indiver Sairem in under-10 boys vaulting exercise and Md Irsad Ali in floor exercises.
