Guwahati, June 19: The Assam Olympic Association has appointed its former general secretary and current associate vice-president, Munin Nabis, as the chef-de-mission for the 35th National Games that will be held in Kerala in February next year.

The association’s general secretary and state forest minister, Rakibul Hussain, today said Nabis would look after the Assam contingent’s preparation and participation in the mega event.

The association’s annual general meeting will be held at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon on July 13 from 10am. While affiliated state sports associations can send four representatives each, district sports associations can send two to the meeting.

Hussain said the affiliated units would have to clear their affiliation fees by July 1 to become eligible to attend the meeting, where a new executive committee of the apex sports body of the state would be elected.

The elections were due in 2011 but the meeting was not held because association president and chief minister Tarun Gogoi couldn’t manage time. As a result, the current executive committee had to continue in office for nearly two additional years.
